At first, Mount Zion School, west of Fayetteville,  was Washington County District No. 1 but later Fayetteville was made District No. 1 and Mount Zion became District No. 2.   Mount Zion was consolidated with the Fayetteville School District in 1948. Taken in 2010, these photographs show all that remains of Mount Zion School. Located off Old Farmington Road about 60-yards off the pavement, the building has completely fallen in on itself leaving only a pile of rubble where children once recited their lessons and worshipers raised their voices in song. An old stove that once heated the building leans in rusted glory against a tree not far from the concrete base of the well out back. The small brick pillars and steps, once leading to the entrance, are still visible beneath the rubble.
